    Julia Barnes

    Mrs. Julia Slawson Barnes of the Doster Community near Ariton, died early Christmas morning, December 25, 2010, in Montgomery. She was 83. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 29, 2010 in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home in Ozark with Reverend Randy Adams and Reverend Todd Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Holmes Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery with Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. Visitation will be in the funeral home chapel Wednesday with the family receiving friends from 12:30 p.m. until service time. Mrs. Barnes was the daughter of the late Zera Anderson Slawson and Miriam Garner Slawson. Mrs. Barnes was a charter member of the Holmes Freewill Baptist Church was retired from Phillips-Van Heusen in Ozark and Stanley Home Products. She was known for her strong will and determination to always maintain her pride, dignity, and underlying independence until her death. Her kindness and generous ways were expressed with many beautiful handmade quilts that she made for family and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward D. Barnes; one brother, Claudie A. Slawson; and a sister, Bessie M. Harrison. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Theresa and Bob Biersack of Montgomery; a very special and dedicated niece, Patty Blankenship of Clio; Also, three other nieces and three nephews. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Caring Hands Volunteers, 228 Mary Dell Drive, Ozark, Alabama 36360. Holman Funeral Home of Ozark, (334) 774-5348, is in charge of arrangements.

    Mr. Billy R. Gulledge

    Mr. Billy Ross Gulledge, age 81, of Ozark, passed away Tuesday, December 3, 2013, in Ozark Nursing Home after a long illness, being taken care of with caring hands and compassionate hearts, with Jackie by his side. Funeral services will be 2:00 P. M. Saturday, December 7, 2013, in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home in Ozark with Reverend Dr. Dennis Tew officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Memorial Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 12:30 P. M. until service time. Mr. Gulledge was born September 30, 1932 in Barbour County. He served in the United States Army from 1950 until 1952. Billy worked with Pemco Aeroplex when it first started at Napier Field in the fabric shop for thirty-eight years before he retired. He was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church where he served in every capacity at one time or the other, and was in the adult men's class. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, L. W. Gulledge and Bessie M. Harrison. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jackie Gulledge of Ozark, AL; two children and their spouses, Robert M. and Rosanna Gulledge of Ozark, AL, Mary Beth and Bob Carver of Birmingham, AL; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law, Merle and Richard Cikra of Ft. Wayne, IN; one brother and sister-in-law, Douglas and Betty Gulledge of Abbeville, AL. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made in his memory to Hillcrest Baptist Church Building Fund, 246 Church Avenue, Ozark, Alabama 36360.
