Name:
Born in England; came to Dedham with his parents; removed to Lancaster in 1657; signed the covenant march 7, 1659, and was "one of the fathers of the town." He was a farmer, and, it is believed, also a carpenter.
In 1652 he was fined for wearing great boots before he was worth L200, which was contrary to a sumptuary regulation of the government of Mass. ordered in 1651. He was killed, with his son Joshua, by the Indians Feb. 10, 1676, during a raid upon the settlement.

4. | Jonathan FAIRBANKS (1.Grace1) was born in England; died on 28 Jan 1711/2 in Dedham, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts. Notes:
Name:
Jonathan Fairbanks, born in England; admitted townsman in Dedham 'ye 1 of ye 11: 1654," and signed the covenant. Resided in Dedham. He died Jan. 28, 1711/2.
He was a soldier in King Philip's War, serving in the first or Mt. Hope campaign in 1675, also in several subsequent campaigns. His name appears in the list of "Assignment of Wages" to the town of Roxbury, Aug. 26, which leads to the supposition that at that time he resided there, for it was the custom of the times for soldiers to assign their wages to the towns in which they resided in order that their families could be provided for.
Jonathan married Deborah SHEPARD on 10 May 1643. Deborah died on 7 Sep 1705. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
