    ELIZABETH G. LOCKBURNER, a lifelong resident of Sussex County, died at her home in Lafayette on Wednesday, May 20, after being ill only a few days. She was born in Jersey City on May 26, 1864, the daughter of the late Henry and Carolyn Cahrs of Culvers Lake. Of a family of six children she is survived by one brother, Edwin J. of Culvers Lake and her eight children. John D. of Omaha, Nebraska; Edwin J. at home; Frank, and May wife of L.F. Sargent of Lafayette; Elizabeth wife of A.J. Pullis of Sussex; Meryl wife of Walter Sisco of Franklin; Dorothy wife of T.C. Conners of Passaic and Carolyn Lozaw of Franklin; also by thirty grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
    Mrs. Lockburner was well known, being a hard working industrious person always looking on the bright side of life. No task or hardship was too great for her to undertake. She was always the happiest when busy or surrounded by her family and friends. She will be sadly missed not only by her children but by the public who came in contact with her daily life. To know her was to love her.
    She was laid to rest in the family plot in the North Church Cemetery on Saturday, May 23, beside her late husband, Frank Lockburner, who departed this life 23 years ago.

    Caroline Lockburner Lozaw's Obit from New Jersey Herald August 5, 1954

    Franklin - Mrs. Caroline H. Lozaw of Scott Road, widow of Terrance Lozaw, died Sunday at Linn Hospital, Sussex after a long illness. She was 58. Born in Lafayette, she had lived here 35 years. She was a member of the American Legion Auziliary and a Gold Star Mother; also a member of the Hamburg Presbyterian Church Ladies Aid Society.
    She is survived by a son, Edward of Rayville, Mo; two daughters, Mrs. Sarah Allen of Fresno, California and Miss Dorothy, at home. Two brothers, John D. Lockburner of Omaha, Neb., Frank Lockburner, Lafayette and four sisters, Mrs. May Sargent and Mrs. Elizabeth Pullis of Lafayette, Mrs. Meryle Sisco, Franklin and Mrs. Dorothy Connors, Passaic and one grandchild.
    Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at the F. John Ramsey Funeral Home. 1 Main Street. harry Wilson pastor of the Hamburg Presbyterian Church officiated. Burial was in the North Hardyston Cemetery.

    Caroline married Terrence McManus LOZAW before 1920. Terrence (son of George W.     Sparta - Funeral services for ALVIN J. PULLIS, of Route 15, were conducted yesterday (Wednesday) at the Goble Funeral Home. Main Street, by the Rev. Carl Luthman, pastor of the Lafayette Frederated Church. Masonic rites were held Tuesday evening. Burial was in North Hardyston Cemetery.
    Mr. Pullis died Sunday of a heart ailment in Newton Memorial Hospital. born in Wyckoff 60 years ago, he had lived here most of his life. He was a dairy farmer and was a member of Harmony Lodge. F and A.M. of Newton and of the Lafayette Federated Church.
    Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Pullis, a son, Alvin F. of Sparta Township; two daughters, Mrs. Henry Pickarski of Sparta Lakes, and Mrs. Walter Vealey of Lafayette Township; two brothers, Russell of Wantage township and Andrew of Wyckoff; two sisters Mrs. Herman Reinhard of Franklin and Mrs. Mae Drew of Paterson. He also leaves four grand children.

    "EDWIN LOCKBURNER SHOTS HIMSELF WITH SHOTGUN"

    Edwin Lockburner, 59, was found dead in a shed in the rear of his home on the Lafayette-Monroe Road, Sparta Township, yesterday afternoon with gunshot wounds in his heart. The body was discovered about 1;50 p.m. by Sam Mitchell, of Lake Grinnell, and Al Klein of Sunset Rest. Coroner, George H. McCloughan said it was a case of suicide and that Mr. Lockburner had not been dead long when the body was found.
    Mr. Lockburner, who lived alone at the old homestead, was suffering from gangrene in his foot. The shot gun which he had used was found near the body.
    Mr. Lockburner is survived by five sisters and two brothers. John D. Lockburner, of Omaha, Neb; Mrs. Mae Sargent, of Lafayette; Mrs. Carrie Lozaw, of Franklin; Mrs. A.J. Pullis, of Lafayette; Mrs. Ted Cannon(sic) of Passaic; Mrs. Walter Sisco, of Franklin and Frank Lockburner of Lafayette.
    The funeral will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Luse & Luse Funeral Home in Newton.

    "MAN FOUND DEAD; CALLED SUICIDE"

    Edwin J. Lockburner, 59, of the Lafayette-Monroe Road, Sparta Township was found shot to death in a shed behind his home shortly after noon yesterday (Wednesday). Police Chief George Geffken, of Sparta Township and Coroner George McCloughan said the man killed himself with a 10-gauge shotgun which he held against his chest and discharged by means of a string and a stick attached to the trigger.
    The body was found by Sam Mitchell of Lake Grinnell and Al Kline, of Sunset Inn, Route 6-A. Lockburner, who lives alone had been ill and the two men went to see him. When they could not find him in the house, they noticed that high grass in front of the shed was trampled. When they investigated they found the body and notified police. State Trooper Garnet Duff joined Chief Geffken in the investigation.
    According to Coroner McCloughan, Lockburner has been a patient in the the Newton memorial Hospital several weeks ago, suffering from diabetes. When the body was found, McCloughan said the left leg was badly infected with gangrene. Chief Geffken estimated the man shot himself between 9 and 9:30 a.m. yesterday.
    Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 pm. from the Luse and Smith Home, with the Rev. Carl Luthman, pastor of the Federated Church of Lafayette, officiating. Burial will be in North Church cemetery. Masonic services will be held tomorrow (Friday) night. Mr. Lockburner was born on the farm on which he died. He was the son of Frank and Elizabeth Cahrs Lockburner, and was unmarried. He is survived by seven brothers and sister.     John D Lockburner died suddenly at his home of a heart attack. He spent his childhood in Lafayette, NJ leaving at the age of 17 to enlist in the US Marine Corps.

    After 30 years in the Marines Mr. Lockburner retired, then lived for a time in San Diego, Calif. He has been a resident of Omaha for the past 20 years.

    He is survived by one brother and 4 sisters.

    Military funeral services and burial took place Monday in Omaha.

    Notes from Marcia Harbijanae: John D. enlisted August 23, 1907 into the US Marine Corps. He was 19 years old. He retired in July of 1935. His muster roll in 1917, at the rank of gunner at Campo Marte, Managua, Nicaragua. he was also stationed in the Philippines, Hawaii, Santos Domingo and Azores.
    Everyone on the Lockburner side of the family, had always thought John D. never married but a 1930 census, living in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (military barracks) age 41 and he listed himself as married, and he was 31 at the age of his first marriage. Also had found a Harriet Lockburner who listed herself as married, and had made voyages to some of the overseas locations at the same tine John D. was stationed there. Three returning trips can be documented from Azores, Dominican republic and Hawaii. After her arrival in San Francisco, California from honolulu, Hawaii in 1929, while John D. was stationed at Pearl harbor, nothing more can be found on her. And nothing was mentioned of her in his obit.

    FRANK LOCKBURNER, father of Sussex County Freeholder Francis Lockburner, died Friday afternoon at his residence on Route 94, Lafayette Township. He was 71 years old.
    Born in Sparta Township he had lived in the area all his life. He was a retired dairy farmer.
    He is survived by his widow, Belma, four sons, Francis, Vivian and Frank, all of Fredon township and Thomas of Florham Park; nine daughters, Mrs. Florence Lauer of Blairstown, Mrs. Elizabeth Slack of Newton, Mrs. Alletar Steffy of Hamburg, Mrs. Agnes haley, of Cortland, N.Y., Mrs. Jean Wardle of Franklin, Mrs. Marjoree Mistretta of Andover, Mrs. Elaine Henderson of Branchvile, Mrs. Molly Harrje of Vernon and Mrs. Diane Smith of Los Angeles, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Merle Van Orden of Franklin and Mrs. Dorothy Conners of Passaic; 40 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
    Funeral services will be 3 p.m. tomorrow at the Smith-McCraken Funeral Home, Newton. The Rev. Allan Davis, pastor of Newton Baptist Church will officiate. Internment will be in North Church Cemetery.
    The family would appreciate expressions of sympathy being made to the Lafayette Federated Church.
    Friends may call at the funeral home today from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.

    Meryl E. Van Orden, 83, of Yuma, Ariz., died Nov. 9 at Yuma regional Medical Center following a long illness.
    Born in Sparta, she had lived in Sussex County before moving to Arizona in 1984.
    Mrs. Van Orden is survived by a daughter, Catherine of Yuma, with whom she resided; a son, Robert of Long Valley; a sister, Dorothy Connors of Clifton; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
    Cremation was held in Yuma.
