    DEATH ANNOUNCEMENT

Many of the older residents of the city no doubt retain pleasant recollections of Miss Sophie McDade, a favorite in many social circles, and who for several years was an efficient teacher in the public schools. She made many friends among the musical class, as she had bright vocal talent and her rich and impressive contralto contributed greatly to the success of a popular quartet that for years led in the musical services of the Presbyterian church. many years ago she married William Emory Slason, formerly of Canton, Mo., and the couple then made their home in St. Louis, where Mrs. Slason found a musical atmosphere that further developed the range and compass of her vocal attainments. later the couple moved to East St. Louis, where they frequently entertained visitors in their happy and comfortable home. Friends of the family will be greatly grieved to hear that Mr. Slason accidentally shot himself with fatal results.Although his death occurred several weeks ago it is only recently friends in Quincy were advised of the sad event. Mrs. Slason and daughter, Miss Mary, and sisters, Misses Emma and Katie McDade, continue to live in their East St. Louis home, No. 1815 College avenue. As Mrs. Slason has conveyed hope and comfort to countless numbers in her ministry of song, there is a confidence that now in her affliction, she will receive condolence from large numbers of her former associates.
