- He was fifteenth in descent from Edward I, King of England. William was the nephew of Edward Palmes, husband of Lucy Winthrop (daughter of Governor JohnWinthrop, Jr. of Connecticut). William Palmes, who never lived in America, had a will that was probated in Ireland in 1678. His widow and her four children are mentioned in papers dated Feb. 1678/79 which belonged to Major Edward Palmes, who was William's uncle. [1]
