- GILSON, R.J. 'Gil' - Of Davison, formerly of Hollywood, Florida, age 81, passed away Saturday, June 7, 2003 at his residence. A Funeral Service will be held 10:30AM Wednesday, June 11, 2003 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison, Pastor Daryl Taylor officiating. Burial in Flint Memorial Park . The family will receive visitors at the funeral home 2-4 and 6- 9PM Monday and Tuesday. R.J. was born January 6, 1922 in Otisville, MI, the son of the late Orria and Orissa Gilson. He married Arlene Thom in 1942. She preceded him in death on January 19, 1978. He married Patricia LaValley on May 14, 1988. Mr. Gilson proudly served his country in the U.S. Marines during World War II. He was a member of Hollywood, Florida Church of the Nazarene, where he was a Sunday School teacher for 12 years. R.J. retired from AC Spark Plug after 39 years of service. Surviving are: wife, Patricia; two sons, David (Mildred) Gilson, Brad (Grace) Gilson; and adopted daughter, Penny Zynda; five stepchildren, Robert (Jenny) LaValley, Tony (Annie) LeValley, Gary LaValley, Debra (Rob) Gulick, Brenda (Robert) Wilson; two grandchildren, Joseph and Leanne; one great-grandchild; eleven step- grandchildren; ten step-great- grandchildren; two sisters, Lena Kerr, Mabel (Hank) Fenningdorf; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Marguerite. The family would like to express a Thank You to the nurses at Hospice and the staff at Lapeer Regional Hospital.
