- Jack Lingle, 88, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 8:53 a.m., Tuesday, September 10th, while in the company of family members, at Pleasant View Home, Inman, Kansas.
Jack was born in Roberts, Wisconsin on October 17, 1924, the son of Alma Blanche (Slabach) and Myron Earl Lingle.
Jack attended various schools in Minnesota.
Jack was a member of First Baptist Church of McPherson, where he served his church in many capacities through the years. He was a former member of the First Christian Church of McPherson.
Jack honorably served in the U.S. Navy as a Radioman third Class during WW II. He also honorably served in the U.S. Army with the 439th Engineers Corps during the Korean War.
Through the years Jack worked for Prairie Gardens, owned and operated the Down Town Derby Service Station, worked as a body man for the Ford Dealership, owned and operated Jack's Body Shop, and was a salesman for Kansas Jack. As a golf enthusiast, Jack also went to Golfsmith school in Texas and learned how to repair and build clubs. Jack loved golf and in his lifetime had three holes-in-one.
Jack was a member of American Legion Post 24, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2715, and the Zoning board, all of McPherson, Kansas.
Jack was united in marriage to Esther Mary Rivas on April 2, 1947 at Lyons, Kansas. She died on July 31, 1965. Jack was united in marriage to Betty Joane Carter on March 9, 1966 at McPherson, Kansas.
Surviving family members include his loving and devoted wife of over forty-seven years, Betty J. Lingle, of McPherson; his children, Larry and wife Lennea, of Hornby Island, Canada, Michael of Valley Village, California, Debra and husband Steve Hoover, of Shawnee, Kansas, and Toni of Fresno, California; his siblings, Beth Fraune of Osakis, Minnesota, Margaret Rivett of McPherson, Kansas, Shirley Gatz and husband Elmer of Wichita, Kansas, Kenneth of Yuba City, California, Art "Red" and wife Diane of Lawrence, Kansas, Edward of Collinsville, Oklahoma, Harold "Hulie" of Sparks, Nevada, and Gary and wife Diane of Placerville, California; grandsons, Christopher, Matthew, and Timothy; great-granddaughters, Roseanna and Sarah; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; his 1st wife, Esther Mary Rivas Lingle; son Dwayne Delaney; daughters, Bobby Lingle and Kay Rockhold; sister LaVera Lingle; brothers G.D. "Bud" and Royce "Buck".
Graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at the McPherson Cemetery McPherson, Kansas with military honors presented by members of the American Legion Post 24 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2715 both of McPherson.
The memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church, McPherson, Kansas, at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 14, 2013 with Pastor Terry Tareila officiating.
