- His father gave him by deed, dated 23 April 1772, for "love, goodwill and affection," two parcels in the Rochester Great Neck (PLCD, vol. 57, p. 68). He bought in June 1772 from Edward Soule a two-acre Rochester lot and by deed of 2 Sept. 1777 he sold a parcel of land on Pine Island to John Clapp. He was named in his father's will in 1778, and there are other conveyances in his name.
The will, dated 4 Jan. 1816 and proved 27 May 1818, of Joel Ellis "of Rochester..yeoman..being advanced in age," give 'To my wife Tabitha,....sons William and Stephen Ellis...son Paul Ellis...and Tabida Ellis...daughter Patience wife of William Crapo, Jr., daughter Ruth Ellis...daughter Polly Ellis" (Plymouth County probate).
The births and baptisms of his children do not appear in the "Vital Records of Rochester", so they are known to su only though their father's will. [1]
