He is mentioned in the will of his grandfather, Robert Brownell, and has sometimes gone under the name of Wilbor as he was the son of John Wilbore and Margaret Brownell and was illegitimate. His estate was administered by his wife Mary 1 Sept. 1781 under the name of Brownell. This case of illegitimacy was tried in the Superior Court, general sessions, 9 July 1706...

"The Wildbores in America": John Wilbore's will was made at Little Compton, R.I., on June 25, 1747, and proved November 27, 1747. In it bequeathed: To wife, Sarah, feather bed and furniture. To son John, 15 pds. To so Aaron Wilbor, all lands and housing in Little Compton. To son Constant, 200 pds. To son Isaac, 200 pds. To daughter Sarah Shaw, 5 pds. To daughters mary Southworth, Elizabeth Hannond and Sarah Shaw, all my household goods. to Parnell Southwarth. Signed: John Wilbor. Witnesses: David Brownell, Joshua Brownell and Rescomb Sanford.
