2. | Lieut. Robert WEBSTER (son of Gov. John WEBSTER and Agnes ?); died in Jun 1676. Notes:
Name:
He was the son of John and Agnes Webster the fifth governor of the colony of Connecticut, and died at Hartford in 1677. After the organization of the town if Middletown, in 1651, or 1652, he was chosen recorder, Feb. 25, 1654. In 1672, he received a grant of three hundred acres of land for services in the war, having been made a lieutenant by the General Court in April, 1654. He was a deputy nine times, from 1653-1662. About 1660, he returned to Hartford. Was chosen townsman in 1664; list and rate maker in 1668. Mrs. Webster's will is preserved in the probate office, Hartford. It is sealed with a fine seal, in excellent preservation, displaying a crest composed of a pair of clasped hands and on them a bowman with bow and arrow. The seal is oval in shape and around the device is this motto: "I am sure in good daylight."
Robert married Susannah TREAT about 1652. Susannah (daughter of Hon. Richard TREAT and Alice GAYLARD) was born in 1629 in Pitminster, Somerset, England; was christened on 8 Oct 1629 in Pitminster, Somerset, England; died in 1705 in Hartford, Hartford Co., Connecticut. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
