Mary Smith was possibly around a dozen years old when baptized. She was "of Salem" on her marriage in Beverly, 20 March 1678, by Major William Hawthorne, to mark Haskell of Beverly, son of Roger and Elizabeth(Hardy) Haskell of Salem. He was named for his mariner uncle, who with wife Hannah, after living in Gloucester and Salem, settled in Beverly by 1688 (it took his wife three year to convert him to becoming a member of the church in Beverly. Mark Haskell the younger was forceful, independent, and by inheritance or training somewhat of a free-thinker. He had been bequeathed a "close" (barn yard) and meadow in Beverly by his father in 1667; he was a carpenter by trade and also engaged in ship building, some mercantile ventures, and civic affairs during his active life.

Mark and Mary (Smith) Haskell had four sons and two daughters born in or near Beverly.

Mary married Mark HASKELL on 20 Mar 1678 in Beverly, Essex County, Massachusetts. Mark (son of Roger HASKELL and Elizabeth HARDY) was born in 1650 in Beverly, Essex Co., Massachusetts; died on 17 May 1699 in Rochester, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
