He lived in Stonington. From Rev. Amos S Chesebrough's notes "On June 24, 1764, he owned the covenant and had his two children bap. He was a farmer, and on the first call of troops in April, 1775, to resist the British aggressions he enlisted in Third Company, Sixth regiment under col. Samuel H. parsons, Connecticut troops, as a private; was discharged December 10, 1775; enlisted again in Durkees Regiment; was taken prisoner November 16, 1776, on the surrender of Fort Washington, New York Island, with 2818 other soldiers, under ?Magan. After his return home he enlisted a third tie in the 5th Company of the 4th Battalion of State troops, was made ensign and served under Gen. Spencer in Rhode Island. He continued in the Army until near the close of the war." "In the settlement of his estate his heirs, through the mismanagement and bad advise of the administrator, Amos Denison, Esq., became involved in a long and expensive lawsuit, which so wasted the fine estate that nothing remained to the family but the widows dower. His Younger son, Charles Grandison, never married, but cultivated what was left of the old homestead, living with his mother (d. at 87) and his sister Ketruah, Prudence and Mary.

Chesebrough, D.D.: "April 20, 1729, both owned the Covenant; accepted the office of Deacon Sept. 4, 1743; Deacon Nathan Chesebrough owned all the land from the 'Road' to the'Point' and left a large farm to each of his five sons; to Nathan, the farm lands where Capt. Alex. Palmer now lives; to (now) Thomas Palmer farm, east of the Road Meeting-House; to Robert, the farm recently occupied by Erskine Edwards." From First Society records; "Stonington, Jan. ye 17 A.D. 1765, Deacon Nathan Chesebrough, Esq., of Stonington, gave an acre of land, to erect a meeting-house on near ye dwelling-house of Mr. Nathaniel Hewitt's." He was admitted to full communion on 18 Apr 1742 Stonington.
