  1. 1.  Capt Stephen SEARS was born on 2 May 1738 in Harwich, Massachusetts (son of Benjamin SEARS and Abigail BURGESS); died in 1791 in New York City, New York.

    Notes:

    Name:
    Capt. Stephen Sears removed with his parents to South East, Putnam co., (then Dutchess co.,) N.Y., and about 1760, to Sharon, Ct., where at a later date, he purchased the Dea. Hunter (his wife's father's) place, of 150 acres.

    He was a carpenter by trade, and in that capacity superintended the erection of the meeting-house built in 1768, which was taken down when the brick church was built.

    He died of yellow fever at New York in 1791, while at work upon a contract there. He held the office of Sheriff, and during the Revolution, was a Captain and Commissary.
