In consequences, probably, of the marriage, he was summoned to Parliament from 4 Aug 1377 by writs directed 'Johanni de Arundell', whereby he may be held to have become Lord Arndel.
He was marshal of England in 1377. Being in command of a naval expedition in aid to the Duke of Brittany, he defeated the French fleet off the coast of Cornwall. John De Arundel died testate at sea on 15 Dec 1379, being wrecked and drowned in the Irish Sea, and was buried in Lewes Priory.
John married Alianor MAUTRAVERS on 17 Feb 1358/9. Alianor (daughter of Sir John MAUTRAVERS and Gwenthlin) was born about 1345; died on 12 Jan 1404/5. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
