CASTLETON - Richard Dick Norris Reid, 77, of Castleton and a former longtime resident of Fair Haven, died Tuesday evening April 22, 2014, at his residence.

He was born October 29, 1936, in Rutland, the son of Norris Lewis and Edna Frances (Rogers) Reid.

Mr. Reid graduated from Fair Haven High School in 1954.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War.

Mr. Reid married Alice Sandy (Sabia) Reid on May 23, 1963.

Mr. Reid was employed by the Town of Fair Haven for 29 years. For the last 15 years, he held the position of Supervisor of Public Works prior to his retirement in 1998; he also had worked for the Durfee Funeral Home and various construction companies.

Mr. Reid was a member of American Legion Post #49, Fair Haven Eagles Aerie 3907 and Eureka Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Alice, two sons, Daniel R. Reid and his wife, Shannon, and Dennis Reid and his wife, Sarah; a sister, Norma Herbie Pockette; 4 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, sister Jean Reid Langley and an infant daughter, Mary Anne Reid, who died April 23, 1968.

There will be no calling hours.

Private graveside services will be held at a later date in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at a later date.

The arrangements are by Durfee Funeral Home, 119 North Main St., Fair Haven.
