    Dale Richard Combs, 70, of Carbondale and formerly of Carterville, passed away Thursday, October 15, 2020, at the Marion VA Medical Center CLC.

    Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 20, 2020, at Willowrest Cemetery in Carterville, with Father Mark Reyling officiating. Military rites will be accorded by the Carterville American Legion Post, Herrin V.F.W. and American Legion Post, and the Army National Guard Ritual Team.

    Memorial contributions can be made to the Carterville High School Athletic Department.

    Dale was born March 4, 1950, in Olney, to Charles Fred and Vivian Mae (Bare) Combs. He married Shirley Ann Ginder on April 5, 1975, in Olney.

    He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Shirley Combs of Carbondale; son, Josh (Mindy) Combs of Carterville; daughter, Chrissy (Travis) Maynor of Ava; grandchildren, Isabella Combs of Marissa, Chase Combs of Carterville, Noah Maynor and Gracie Maynor, both of Ava; brother, Glenn (Cindy) Combs; sisters, Kay (Don) Novak and Carolyn (Gene) Iffert; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Linda Combs, Judy (Tony) Beal, Ron (Jamie) Ginder, Mike Ginder, and Barbara (Mike) Hunley; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

    He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ray Combs; and nephew, Donnie Novak.

    Dale honorably served our country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.

    He started as a small engine/appliance repairman at Sears, working there for 10 years. Dale then began his own business, Combs Appliance Repair, retiring in 2014.

    Dale was an avid sports fan who loved the St. Louis Cardinals, and he particularly enjoyed basketball, golf and football. He was part of the "chain gang" for football games at Carterville High School and SIUC.

    He also liked to make clocks and tinker in his shop. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, especially his kids and grandkids.

    Vivian M. Combs, 92, of Olney, formerly of Dundas, Illinois, passed away Monday, February 9, 2015 at Richland Memorial Hospital Long Term Care in Olney.

    Vivian was born May 11, 1922 in Edwards County, Illinois, the daugther of Wilbur Leonard and Bertha Lorene (Schrader) Bare. She was a stay-at-home mom and then worked at the Olney Garment Factory and the Olney Care Center before volunteering at the Salvation Army.

    She is survived by her children, Kay (Don) Novak of Georgetown, IN; Dale (Shirley) Combs of Carbondale, IL; Carolyn (Gene) Iffert of Ingraham, IL; Glenn (Cindy) Combs of Marion, OH; and daughter-in-law, Linda Combs of Dundas; 13 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren; Brother, Don Bare of Olney; and sisters, Pat (Jim) Ginder and Faye (Sue) Harmon of Olney.

    She was preceded in death by her four month old daughter, Barbara, a son, Ray Combs of Dundas, and a great granddaughter, Autumn VanBlaricum of Winnfield, LA, her parents, brother, Pete Bare, and sisters, Mildred Scott, Maxine Witte, Mary Boulb, Opal Swinson Aldridge, Betty Swinson, and Judy Novak.

    Services at Summers-Kistler Funeral Home with burial in Dundas Cemetery.
