    Notes:

    Name:
    Samuel Fancher was a farmer and shoemaker. He bought land in Tioga, NY in 1815 but probably never lived there. He was in South Salem in 1820 and New York City in 1835 and 1840.

    Samuel married Hannah RAYMOND on 14 Sep 1797 in South Salem, Westchester Co., New York. Hannah was born on 28 Nov 1779; died in 1826. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    He married, in New Canaan, Conn., 2 Jan. 1766, SARAH SMITH, born in Poundridge 15 Oct 1744 and died there 9 Feb. 1823. (Ezra Lockwood's book states William's wife as SALLY HANFORD, of new Canaan and one of her grandsons was named Hanford Fancher. She might have been Sally (Hanford) Smith, a widow, when she married William Fancher.)

    William Fancher was the second (1780-1781) and fourth (1788-1801) supervisor of the town of Poundridge. he served as judge of the court of common pleas of Westchester County and as justice of peace in Poundridge for many years, and was known as Judge Fancher.

    William Fancher served as second lieutenant of the Minute Men 19 Oct. 1775 and was made captain in March 1777, in the Second Middle Regiment. He was of weak constitution which kept him from entering into active service. After the war he served as Lieutenant in Cane's Fourth Regiment of Westchester County Militia. he was an Associated Exempt because of holding political office.

    Mr. Fancher took a leading part in the establishment of the Presbyterian Church in Poundridge, was made an elder in 1788 and was one of the first trustees when the church was incorporated 28 April 1788.

    William married Sarah Hanford SMITH on 02 Jan 1766 in New Canaan, Fairfield, Connecticut, USA. Sarah was born on 15 Oct 1744 in Pound Ridge, Westchester, New York; died on 9 Feb 1823 in Pound Ridge, Westchester Co., New York. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
