    The Berkshire Historical Society Collections (p. 93) state that Samuel Eddy is one of those "who is recommended and received from distant places "to the Church of Christ as Cheshire. He seems to have lived in Windsor. Perhaps he went there later, but he was established there in 1777 when the Revolutionary War needed help from that section to protect Vermont. He was one of the famous company of "Silver Grays", which marched for the defense of Bennington.

    Samuel married Rachel SMITH on 7 Mar 1754 in Scituate, Rhode Island. Rachel was born in 1736 in Scituate, Providence Co., Rhode Island; died on 6 Apr 1811 in Dorset, Bennington Co., Vermont; was buried in North Dorset Cemetery, North Dorset, Bennington Co., Vermont.   1. 2.  Caleb EDDY was born on 2 Mar 1708/09 in Swansea, Massachusetts (son of Samuel EDDY and Sarah EASTERBROOKS); died on 19 Feb 1793.

    Name:
    In the land transactions, he is called Caleb Eddy Junior, and also Caleb the second. he was a farmer and husbandman in Swansea near Kickemuit Bridge where he made his home until about 1752, when he moved to Scituate, Rhode Island. Between 1746 and 1752, deeds are found in Warren, Rhode Island since that part of Swansea was ceded to Rhode Island and became the town of Warren. In Warren is recorded Caleb's earmark for cattle, Apr. 1, 1747, "which is a slit in the top of the right ear and a crop on the left ear," and he was made freeman in Warren in 1747 and again in 1748 he took the Freeman's oath in Warren. In Scituate, Rhode Island is recorded on May 17 1753, "The earmark with which Caleb Eddy marks his creatures is a crop of the top of the left ear and a slit in the top of the right ear."

    Caleb married Mehitable LUTHER on 18 Jun 1730. Mehitable was born on 11 Apr 1712; died on 4 Jan 1780. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
