    Name:
    Samuel lived in Woodstock, where he was a farmer and teacher. he entered the Revolutionary army when quite young, as a drummer boy, and was present at the execution of Major Andre', the English officer arrested and executed as a spy. Samuel Chaffee was buried in Woodstock. His widow and his son-in-law, Joseph deans, were appointed administrators of his estate and the inventory was taken, November 12, 1813. The estate, amounting to $3,650.15, was divided among the heirs November 1, 1814. October 7 1823, Joseph Deans was appointed guardian of the minor children, Eliza and Ezra.

    Samuel married Azubah SANGER on 25 May 1783 in Woodstock, Massachusetts. Azubah was born on 3 Sep 1760; died on 28 Sep 1834 in Orwell, Pennsylvania; was buried in Woodruff's Corners, near Orwell, Pennsylfania. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  1. 2.  Ebenezer CHAFFE was born on 22 Sep 1704 in Swansea, Bristol Co., Massachusetts (son of John CHAFFE and Sarah HILLS); died on 11 Apr 1784 in Woodstock, Connecticut.

    Name:
    Ebenezer Chaffe was baptized in the First Congregational Church of Woodstock, October 3, 1731, and owned the covenant, October 10th following. He was still a communicant in that church July 3, 1737/8. December 21, 1733, "Ebenezer Chafee husbandman of Woodstock" bought land there for L96 of Nathaniel and Smith Johnson. may 19, 1755, he sold to Thomas Chapman, probably his son-in-law, for L200, ten acres there. April 3, 170, he bought of Benjamin Skinner of Springfield, land in that township for L15. November 17, 1764, he sold to his son Ezra for L60, twenty-five acres of land in the south half of Woodstock. February 11, 1765, "Ebenezer Chaffee yeoman" sold to his brother, "John Chaffee of Wilbraham" (which town had just been set off from Springfield as a separate town), thirty-eight and three-fourths acres of land there, the price being L6, 16s.

    Ebenezer married Sarah ADAMS about 1755. Sarah was born about 1719; died on 5 Aug 1782 in Woodstock, Connecticut. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
