Ancestry.com: Obituary for Judson Parliament Hutchins from Brookville (PA) Newspaper microfilm Wednesday Aug 21, 1887. Mr. Parliment Hutchins died at his home in Pinecreek Township, Tuesday August 8, 1887 aged 70 years, 4 months, and 21 days having lived 49 years in Jefferson County. Mr. Hutchins was born in Luzerne Co., Pa. In 1837, he was married to Miss Esther Slawson and in November of that year he and his wife and T.B. London and family started for Jefferson Co. After 11 days of travel through all kinds of weather they arrived in Brookville on the 18th day of the month having made the entire trip in a one-horse wagon. Mr. Hutchins engaged in lumbering for R.P. Barr for some time and then he worked for J.Y Thompson as sawyer where Belle Mills now stands. he then bought a mill property on Mill Creek with some timber and farm lands. After lumbering a few years he turned his attention to farming, and built a house, barn, and other buildings and improved his farm, making a comfortable home for his family and himself where he lived until the time of his death. In December 1886 he was stricken down suddenly with paralysis from which he never recovered, and death finally came and relieved him of his sufferings. he leaves a wife, ten children and 37 grandchildren to mourn their loss. he was a tender and loving husband, a kind father, and a good neighbor. he united with the Baptist Church in 1843 and was a consistent member until the war broke out, when he argued that a man could not be a Christian and slay his fellow man - - Christ taught love, not hatred -- and he withdrew from the Church. He said he was not afraid to die; his work was done and he would try to be patient till the Lord's time came. No More on Earth we'll meet you. But time so quickly flies Ere long we hope to greet you. When we'll meet beyond the skies. There will be no more sorrow. And parting will be not more, and we'll praise our dear redeemer. On that celestial shore. E.H. (written by Esther Slawson Hutchins, his widow)
