Name:
It is not definitely known in what year Richard WESTCOTT arrived in New England, but he is supposed to have been one of Elder Thomas HOOKER'S party who went from Newtown, Mass., to the Connecticut River valley in 1636, settled in Wethersfield and from there served in the Pequot War. The location of his home lot of three acres in Wethersfield, are shown on an old map of the town. He sold his home at Wethersfield in 1645 and removed to Fairfield, Conn., where he d. pr. Mar. 11, 1649/50. He m. Joanna (?) whose family name has not been learned. I as the younger Governor WINTHROP stated in 1667, that Joanna was then "aged 55 years," she was born in 1612/3. Her sister is said to have been the wife of Robert SANFORD of Hartford, Conn. After Richard died, Joanna m (2) nathaniel Baldwin of Fairfield and New Haven (his second wife), and m (3) Thomas SKIDMORE of Fairfield.

Richard married Joanna ? about 1639/40. Joanna was born in abt. 1612/13; died on 11 Aug 1683 in Hartford, Hartford County,Connecticut. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
