Dorothy Jane Walline Slawson Dorothy Jane Slawson, 92, resident of Santa Maria since 1946, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2011 at the Santa Maria Home Care Center. Dorothy's life will be celebrated in a memorial service on Wednesday, December 28,2011, 1pm at Dudley?Hoffman Mortuary, 1003 E. Stowell Road in Santa Maria. Dorothy was born near Bishop, California in 1919 at the home of her parent's ranch. In 1927, the family moved to Arcadia, California, where Dorothy attended elementary through high school, and further attended Pasadena City College. In Los Angeles, Dorothy worked at PAC Bell, where she rode the famous "Red Cars" to work daily. In addition she worked for USC's Allan Hancock Foundation. In 1942, she married the love of her life, Mervin Z. Slawson, in Las Vegas after meeting him at a dance she attended with her sister Phyllis. They were married for over 60 years. Dorothy spent many years working as a legal secretary for attorney Jack Glines. She was an avid reader and collector of antiques. For many years she enjoyed attending swap meets with her husband Mervin, an avid camera collector. Her hobbies included crocheting, knitting and rug making. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Mervin, her parents Rolland and Katherine, and her sisters Francis and Phyllis. She leaves behind brother and sister?in?law Rolland and Vallie Walline from Valencia, California, step daughter Sharee Fromholtz from Kansas, sister?in?law Valda Price, and special niece Janet Yowell from Long Beach, along with nephews Michael Walline, Paul Walline, George Bartlett and nieces Marilyn Tereg, Roberta Fengler, Susan Wilson and Carol Riggs. In later years, Dorothy cherished the friendships and visits from Richard Malvarose, Bill Quimby, Mary Aragon, June Yamamoto, Bill and Debbie Hood, Ed Couch, Linda Maxwell, brother and sister?in?law Rolland and Vallie Walline and niece Janet Yowell. The family wishes to thank Santa Maria Home Health Care for their excellent care of Dorothy in her final years. Arrangements are under the direction of Dudley?Hoffman Mortuary, Crematory, and Memory Gardens.

Mervin (son of Ivan LeRoy SLAWSON and Letitia Jessie ZABRISKIE) was born on 06 May 1913 in Kansas; died on 09 Apr 2005 in Santa Maria, Santa Barbara County, California; was buried in Dudley-Hoffman Memory Gardens Columbarium, Santa Maria, Santa Barbara Co., California.
