Jedediah North was a very religious man. He was remembered by his grandchildren for his strict observance of the Sabbath Day. On Sundays, when they went according to their custom, to his house to spend the noon hour between church services, they always found him seated at a table with his Bible before him. Once he appeared at his back door and caught them in the act of picking pears under a tree; he called out: "Children, there are plenty of pears in the house that you can have, but you must not pick them up from the ground on Sunday."

He joined the Kensington Church in 1758 and was a charter member of the Second Congregational Church in Berlin, founded in 1775, of which his father was the first deacon. His house, on the east side of the way at the north end of Berlin village, has been moved back from the street and is now used as a barn. He bought land of Josiah Burnham, in 1786. Recorded as of Berlin in the first Census of 1790. He had eleven children and over eighty grandchildren.

Jedediah married Sarah WILCOX on 27 Jan 1757. Sarah was born in 1739; died on 5 Oct 1775. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

1. Levi NORTH was born on 16 Apr 1760 in Berlin, Vermont; died on 2 Oct 1846 in Berlin, Washington Co., Vermont.

Jedediah married Abigail ANDREWS on 20 Feb 1777. Abigail died in Meredith, New York. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Name:
Dea. Isaac North was the fist enrolled member and the fist deacon of the Second Congregational Church of Berlin, organized Feb. 9, 1775/ He lived in a house still occupied and in good condition, situated one mile north of Berlin Village, and later known as the Abijah North place. The highway was later changed from the front to the rear of the house so that the back door now faces the street.

Isaac married Mary WOODFORD on 27 Feb 1727/8. Mary was born on 2 Mar 1708; died on 25 Aug 1798. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
