2. | Capt Jonathan THING was born in 1653/4 in Exeter, New Hampshire (son of Jonathan THING and Joanna WADLEIGH); died on 31 Oct 1694 in Exeter, New Hampshire. Notes:
Excerpt from " Royall Families Americans of Royal and Noble Ancestry, Vol. One Gov. Thomas Dudley": he may have been the son of his father's unknown first wife. He died from a shot by his own gun when he fell from his horse. The administration of his estate was granted on 22 Feb 1695-1696 to Nicholas Gilman.
Excerpt from "The Story of the Gilmans and a Gilman Genealogy....":When a youth he served in King Phillip's War and later was Captain of the Exeter Co. in King William's War. He held various town offices. Mary died at the age of 33, leaving 7 children. He m. 2nd Mrs. Martha Wiggin and had a son Daniel. He was killed a year later by the accidental discharge of his gun while riding in the woods with his brother Samuel and peter Folsom. He was buried with his first wife, Mary, in the oldest existing graveyard in Exeter.
Jonathan married Mary GILMAN on 26 Jul 1677 in Exeter, New Hampshire. Mary (daughter of John GILMAN and Elizabeth TREWORGY) was born on 10 Sep 1658 in Exeter, New Hampshire; died in Aug 1691. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
