    Notes:

    Name:
James removed with his family from Dutchess Co., NY, into the Wyoming Valley Penna., probably in the spring of 1773. He settled at Wilkes-Barre in a home of log structure. Four years later, his wife became a widow, but remained in her home until the day of the massacre, July 3, 1778. She waved herself by hiding in a cornfield, and, upon finding that all of their buildings and contents were destroyed, she gathered what little she could, and taking her family of small children with her, she went all the way afoot back to her old home in Dutchess County. When she arrived at her sister's home, she was a picture of utter misery and destitution. She never recovered from this dreadful experience, and, on the 12th day of August, 1778, she passed away.

James married Elizabeth CARY in 1758. Elizabeth was born on 18 Aug 1739; died on 12 Aug 1778. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Notes:

    Name:
Christopher Stark was one of the names mentioned in the deed of his father to the Baptist Church. The map of the Fanning Land in Groton shows that Christopher was owner of sixty acres of land on Fort Hill in 1742. The Westmoreland records show that on May 7, 1754, Christopher Stark, of Groton, paid five pounds for one whole share in the Susquehanna Purchase, which, on Jan. 25, 1768, he conveyed to his sons, Aaron, James and William. This deed was made in Beckman Precinct, Dutchess county, New York. His interest in the first Baptist Church was deeded to Pastor Wightman on Dec. 20, 1769, and witnessed by james Stark and Daniel Stark. From the above we infer that Christopher Stark emigrated from Groton, Conn., to Dutchess County, NY between 1750 and 1768. He again removed to Wyoming Valley, Pennsylvania, in 1772, where he died 1777.
