Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 14, 2002, at 11 a.m. at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Athens, AL, with Dr. Juaken Dumas and Dr. Arnold Hon officiating. Burial was in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery with Ardmore Memorial Funeral Home in charge.

Mr. Phillips was born on November 28, 1915, in Carmi, Illinois, to the late Everett Phillips and Cora Belle Hale Phillips.

He was a member of the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, Bob Phillips and wife Sophie of Stillwater, Oklahoma; one daughter, Joyce Kiefer and husband Stan of Athens, AL; one brother, William Phillips of Bullhead City, Arizona; six grandchildren, Brian Phillips, Sharon Phillips, Jeremy Kiefer, Jason Kiefer, Joel Kiefer, and Amy Dice.
