2. | Sergt. Jacob PERKINS was born in 1624 in Newent, Gloucestershire, England (son of John PERKINS and Judith ?); died on 29 Jan 1700 in Ipswich, Essex Co., Massachsetts. Notes:
Name:
As a child, he came from England with his father landing in Boston, Mass., 6 Feb. 1731, and two years later removed to Ipswich.
He was the youngest son, and by his father's will came into possession of the homestead and lands, after the death of his mother. These lands lay at the eastern part of the town near the river. The house was burned down in 1668, and near the old site Jacob put up another of two stories with three rooms on each floor and a "lean-to." The new house was substantially built wand was standing until 1885 when, having become untenantable, it was taken down. In front of the door was a well of water known as "Jacob's Well." He was chosen Sergeant of the Military Company in 1664; and appears to have taken his share of the duties of a citizen. His family Bible is now in the possession of his descendants. Late in life he gave his property into the possession of his two sons Jacob and Matthew, on condition that they support both himself and wife during their natural lives.
Jacob married Elizabeth LOVELL in 1648. Elizabeth was born in 1629; died on 12 Feb 1685. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
