    Notes:

"Genealogy of the Hoyt Families": Benjamin was about 11 yrs. old when Deerfield was attacked. Tradition says that, hearing the screams in the night, his fright led him to jump from a window and hide in a corn-bin, where he lay till morning. Then, finding all gone but the slain, he wished he had been taken, with the others. Some accounts say that he removed with his mother, after her return, to Wallingford, CT. Others state that he went to Norwalk, Ct., and remained there for some time with his father's relatives. Perhaps he may have been in both places. Afterwards, he with 20 or 30 others commenced a settlement at Ridgefield, 12 miles north of norwalk, where he afterwards resided. His descendants say that he gave his coat and hat towards his part of the pay in purchasing the land of the Indians.
