    Excerpt from "Seven Gen. of the Descendants of Aguila and Thomas Chase": He was the first Chase to settle, in 1689, in the "Upper Woods" as the territory above the Artichoke river was then called..... He was styled weaver and ensign and the latter title appears upon his tombstone and that of his first wife. He and his wife were admitted to membership in the Second Church in 1713, and he signed the covenant and helped form the Fourth Church in 1731. It was "granted to Moses Chase to set in the fore seat by the pulpit" 20 Sept. 1700..... He appears on the muster roll of Lt. Caleb Moody in his Company in Her Majesty's service in the woods between Amesbury and "Jamaco" (now Merrimac) in August 1708. This service began on 11 Aug. 1708 and he was one of thirty-four soldiers who received powder and bullets under command of Lt. Moody prior to 17 Aug 1708. He next appears as Ensign of Capt Hugh March's Company of snow-shoe men. This company belonged to the North Regiment in Essex County and was in the service between 1704 and 1710..... He made his will 3 July 1740, which was probated 19 Sept. 1743.
