    Obituary, The Okahoman, Oct 23, 1958:
    D I Johnston, 82, an Oklahoma City attorney since 1903 died Wednesday at his home, 300 NW 17, after an illness of several months. Funeral is to be Friday at 10 am in the First Presbyterian Church, of which he was a member. Interment is to be in Rose Hill Abbey under direction of Street & Draper funeral home.

    A native of Indiana Co PA, Johnston came to Oklahoma City upon graduation from the University of Michigan with an LLB degree in 1903. He had been a member of the law firm of Keaton, Wells and Johnston since 1906.

    Active in educational and religious matters, he was president of the Board of Trustees of Henry Kendall College--now the University of Tulsa--from 1913 to 1917, and from 1913 to 1914 was a member of the state board of education.

    For thirteen years, he was superintendent of his church's Bible school, and he also served as chairman of the board of trustees of the Oklahoma State Sunday School Association.

    In 1943 he was regional vice president of the National Association of Manufacturers. He was also vice president of The North American Oil Refining Corp and secretary of The Pippin Manufacturing Co.

    He was also a leader in the YMCA, YWCA, Red Cross, Chamber of Commerce and other civic organizations.

    Johnston has been listed in "Who's Who" since 1927. A 32nd Degree Mason, Johnston belonged to the Union League of Chicago, the Lawyers Club of the University of Michigan, the Oklahoma Club, the Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club, and the Men's Dinner Club.

    He is survived by his wife, Katherine, of the home; two daughters, Mrs Hampton Tucker Jr, 1420 NW 20 and Mrs Donald Gordon Smith of San Antonio TX; a son, David C Johnston, 4915 N Kelley; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
