In the religious dissensions which resulted in Conn. from the Great Revival, Mr. Bulkeley was a staunch supporter of the stringent measures of government; and to this attitude he is said by the historian Backus to have owed his elevation to the Council, in 1743, in the stead of a sympathizer with the revivalists. A career of wide usefulness was interrupted by his death, from an apoplectic fit, at the age of 48.
