He received L150 from his father's will of 2 Apr 1783. David was an officer in the American Revolution with the First New York Continental Line (1775-1776) under Col. Alexander McDougall. Captain Lyon served later in the Second Westchester Company, Colonel Thomas' regiment. David Lyon served again in Captain Spencer's Additional Continental Regiment from 12 Jan. 1777 until he resigned 10 Apr 1778. David died of smallpox in service in a lace called the sugarhouse - possibly an internment facility for prisoners of war. Family tradition has it that his body was cast to sea on the outgoing tide. Captain Lyon's estate was administered by his nephew Aaron Lyon on 30 Aug 1787.

David married Freelove FORMAN in 1761 in North Castle, Westchester, New York. Freelove (daughter of Jacob FORMAN and Elizabeth LAING) was born on 6 Aug 1744 in North Castle, Westchester Co., New York; died on 14 May 1821 in Chatham Four Corners, Columbia, New York. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

March 5, 1753, Jonathan Lyon sells land to Elizabeth Mead. In 1772 he deeded land in Greenwich to his brother Gilbert. the will of Jonathan Lyon "Of North Castle, NY" is on file and recorded in the office of the Court of Appeals at Albany, NY; dated April 2, 1783; proved Jan. 24, 1787. He bequeaths "to Elizabeth my dearly beloved wife one third part of all my lands in North Castle during her natural life," also L70 out of the estate and all the moveable estate; to son Jonathan L40; to son Elnathan L40; to son Israel L80 and negro boy Abram; to son David L150; to son Peter all lands in North Castle, also negro man Isaac; to grandson Jonathan, son of Elnathan, L10; to grandson Jonathan, son of Peter L5; to grandson Jonathan, son of Phebe L5. Executors, sons Israel and Peter Lyon. Witnesses Silas Sutherland, yeoman, Enoch Miller, Samuel Miller.

Jonathan married Elizabeth MEAD. Elizabeth (daughter of Samuel MEAD and Hannah ?) was born on 5 Apr 1708/9 in Greenwich, Fairfield Co., Connecticut; died after 2 Apr 1783 in New Castle, Westchester County, New York; was buried in Middle Patent Rural Cemetery, Bedford, Westchester Co., New York.
