  1. 1.  Capt. Nathaniel WEST was born in 1665 in West Point Plantation, King William, Virginia (son of Col. John WEST and Unity CROSHAW); died in 1723 in St. Peter's Parish, New Kent, Virginia.

    Name:
    He was a justice of King William County, a tobacco agent and captain of militia. Nathaniel represented the county in the House of Burgesses in 1702. He owned 2,000 acres in King William County and 6,370 acres New Kent County. Captain West was voted to serve as vestryman at a Vestry meeting held for St. Peter's Parish at the house of Mr. James Moss on 23 Apr 1703. Nathaniel died after 30 Oct 1723.

    Name:
    Col. John West, served as captain, major and lieutenant colonel of militia, 1652-73, loyal to Governor Berkeley during Bacon's rebellion; member House of Burgesses, died testate (will dated 15 Nov 1689).

    He is purported to be the first white child born on the York River, and in consideration of this fact, was granted land at West Point which was entailed for several generations. (Note: His will of 15 Nov. 1689 was probated about 1691/2. it was destroyed along with the other County records in a fire in 1787.) Colonel John West acquired land in the seventeenth century, where he built a fine, small brick Jacobean lodge before 1690, the East dependency of the manor house. It became known as the Elsing Green plantation. Colonel West's son, Captain Nathaniel West, inherited Elsing Green upon his father's death in 1692.

    She was the daughter of Major Joseph Crowshaw, who was an attorney. Joseph was a burgess in 1677, justice in 1659, sheriff in 1656 and a member of the Bruton Parish Church in Williamsburg.
