2. | Capt. Edward HUTCHINSON was born on 28 May 1613 in Alford, co. Lincoln (son of William HUTCHINSON and Anne MARBURY); died on 19 Aug 1675 in Killed by Indians in King Philip's War; was buried in Springhill Cemetery, Marlborough, Massachusetts. Notes:

He immigrated on 4 Sep 1633 to Boston on the ship "Griffin". He was made a freeman 3 Sep 1634 and was admitted to full communion on 10 Oct 1634 First Church, Boston. He was a member of the Artillery Company in 1638, a captain in 1657 and a representative in 1658. He held an important rank in King Philip's War 1675, in which conflict he received a wound on 2 Aug 1675 from an Indian in a treacherous assault, says history, when he was marched to a peaceful meeting with them; d. from his wound at Marlborough aged 162. He was among the first to settle in Newport with his father and uncle, forming their covenant 7 Mar 1638. However, he preferred Boston for his residence a few years later. He deserves honor for his firmness in opposing cruelty to the Quakers. he had a will on 17 July 1675 and a codicil dated 19 Aug 1675, that was proved 17 Sep 1675.
