- Joseph H. Mather was for years the senior partner in the book publishing department of Mather, Case, Tiffany & Burnham, in Hartford, now Case Publishing Co. He was author of Mitchell's outline maps, which had a very large circulation; was also engaged in manufacturing and in merchandising in Deep River, Conn.; was also interested in the first shipyard in Chester, Conn.
