      Obituary

"Harold Wendell Padellford was born at Nevada, Iowa, July 18, 1909, and he passed away at the age of 36 years, 11 months and four days, on June 22, 1946, at 1:30 p.m. in the National Veterans Hospital at Los Angeles, Calif.

He attended the Nevada schools and in 1928 enlisted in the navy where he served four years and was given an honorable discharge.

At the time of his discharge he was serving on the battle ship California as fireman, first class.

Before entering the navy and after his discharge, he was employed at the Nevada Poultry Company.

At the beginning of World War II Harold was called back into the navy, but because of ill health was given an honorable discharge.

In 1942 he entered the National Veterans Home at Los Angeles, Calif., where he passed away.

When Harold was twelve years old, he was baptized and united with the Church of Christ at Nevada, Iowa. Harold had pleasing personality and cheerful disposition. He will be remembered as a kind and generous son and brother whose thoughts were always of home and parents. In spite of his failing health, he always maintained a cheerful attitude till the last. His last letters home expressed his love for his family and home and also his deep faith in God. He enjoyed attending the Chapel Services at the Veterans Home whenever he was able. His favorite hymn was "Abide With Me". His memory will live in the hearts of his family and his many friends.

Harold was also a great lover of nature especially the flowers and the birds. His cheerful spirit of the last days was, doubtless, aided by the splendid treatment given him at the Veterans Home. Harold was preceded in death by two sisters: Evangeline, in infancy, and Evelyn, age 14 months.

He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Orrin Padellford, three brothers, Clifford, and twin brothers, Ray and Ralph. Also three sisters, Lucille, now Mrs. Emmett Freel, Viola, now Mrs. Howard Wright, both of Nevada, Iowa, and Mildred, now Mrs. Ward McClellan of Bayard, Iowa.

Harold also leaves to mourn his passing a number of other relatives and friends.

Among those from out of town here for the last rites were: Mr. and Mrs. Ward McClellan, John McClellan, and Mr. and Mrs. Paul McClellan of Bayard; Mrs. Fred Caulkins and Mrs. Harold Buckmaster of Guthrie Center; Miss Louise McClellan of Guthrie Center; Mr. and Mrs. Ray Cook, Mr. and Mrs. George Mayo and Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Van Scoy of Ames.
