- Albert D. Gleason, the father, was a soldier in the Civil War, enlisted in Co. B, 12th Illinois Inf., and was with Sherman on his famous march to the sea, and also in the battles of Lookout Mountain, Mission Ridge, the Seven Days Fight at Atlanta, and the skirmish at Wilmington. received an honorable discharge at Springfield, Ill.
In May 1866, he removed to Barrington, Cook Co., Ill. He was a carpenter and from 1870 to 1876, in partnership with R.R. Mates, he built over 200 houses in Irving Park, near Chicago and vicinity. From 1879 to 1881 he was employed in erecting station buildings on the Union Pacific R.R., and was in charge of a force of 75 men, with headquarters at Cheyenne, Wyo. He was a member of the Masonic Fraternity, and of the Thos. H. Sweeney G.A.R. Post, No. 275. He and is wife were members of the Baptist Church.
Albert H. Gleason, the second son of this family, has been for a number of years, greatly interested in genealogical research and collected a large proportion of the records used in compiling the present volume. [1]
