- Excerpt from "The New England Historical and Genealogical Register": He marched as a private in Capt. John Phelps' Company, Col. Timothy Ruggles' Regiment, on the Alarm for the relief of Fort William Henry in Aguust 1757. He appears to have been the Benjamin Gate who ervedin Capt. John Fry's Company, Col. Timothy Ruggles' Regiment, in the expedition of 1758. He served as a lieutenant and afterward as a captain in the American Revolution.
