  	Ens. Oliver Stone was born 20 Jan. 1719/20, in that part of Groton, Mass., set off in 1732 as Harvard, Mass., where he resided as a farmer throughout his life and was a selectman in 1756. He was a soldier in the French and Indian War, serving from 13 Aug. to 26 Aug. 1757 as sergeant in Capt. Israel Taylor's Harvard company, which marched as far as Springfield, Mass., for the relief of Fort William Henry. (Massachusetts Archives, vol 95, p.489) Soon afterwards he became ensign of the Harvard company as this title is applied to him in his death record at Harvard, 21 Jan. 1761. On 12 Feb. 1761, administration on the estate of Oliver Stone of Harvard, gentleman, was given to his widow Mary Stone. The inventory valued the farm at L360, and the personal estate at L176-15-2. In 1756 guardians had been appointed for the estates of his fie children by his first wife derived from their mother's father John Priest. In 1762 guardianship of the three youngest children (by second wife), Mary, Silas and Oliver Stone, was given to their mother, widow Mary Stone. (Worcester County Probate Records, no. 56834) [1]
