- Benjamin Ambler served in the Rev. as a private in Col. Thomas Thomas's 2d Regt., Westchesgter militia, and in the 4th Regt., N.Y. Line, col. henry B. Livingston. On 8 Mar., 1780, he was com. ensign in Capt. Sackett's Co. of Grenadiers of the 2d Regt. and on 18 Nov., 1781, he was com. ensign of Capt. Josiah Miller's Co. He spent his life in Bedford and his descendants were prominent there for 125 yrs. His earmark was entered 7 June, 1790, and on 13 May, 1792, he was a bondsman for Col. Ebenezer Lockwood and Gen. Thomas Thomas, Loan Officers. He appears frequently in Westchester recs.....
The inventory shows that Benjamin Ambler was a man of property and lists notes from many prominent Bedford and Pound ridge men among his assets. he probably built the attractive Ambler house which sands today (1933) on the lower Bedford-Pound Ridge road at the town line.
