    Notes:

    Name:
Harold Gene Jones was born at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri on January 19, 1940 to Othel and Evelyn Martin Jones, and passed away on Sunday, December 3, 2006, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of sixty-six years, ten months, and twenty-four days.

He attended first, second, and third grades at the Santee School near Dixon, Missouri, where his mother was the teacher. After moving to Lebanon in 1948, he graduated from Lebanon High School in 1957. He attended Missouri State University. Seminars in management and manufacturing were taken at the University of Missouri, Texas A & M, as well as various industrial venues.

He began playing trumpet during the fourth grade and participated in the marching band and pep band during high school, as well as the ROTC band at Missouri State University.

He joined the National Guard in 1957, serving 5 ½ years with the 1107th Transportation Company of the Missouri National Guard.

On November 27, 1959, he was united in marriage to Mary Virginia Stowe, and together they shared forty-seven years and six days. To this union one daughter and two sons were born.

Harold spent most of his career in the engineering and technical sales fields. Eight years were spent on the Apollo Saturn, Lunar Rover Vehicle and Space Shuttle programs in Huntsville, Alabama. He was very proud of a medallion, presented to him by The Boeing Company, which reads: In appreciation for your contribution to the Apollo Saturn project. The Apollo 8 crew carried metal in this medallion on man's first flight to the moon. In 1970, he moved his family back to Lebanon where he finished his career with the Detroit Tool and Engineering Company. At Detroit Tool, he held positions of Design Engineer, Sales Engineer, Product Manager and Plant Manager. During his time in design engineering, his design for a vehicular multi-directional steering system was submitted for patent application. He retired in 2003, after 31 years of employment with Detroit Tool. His professional affiliations included: The American Correctional Association, The Missouri Paving Association and the Society of Manufacturing Engineers.

Harold was one of the founders of The Laclede County Farmers Market Association, serving as Vice-President for two years, and was President of the Maplecrest P.T.A. for two years. He also served on the Board of Directors of Laclede Industries and was a weather spotter for the Laclede County Civil Defense. On numerous occasions he gave programs to the Lebanon area elementary schools on space exploration.

Harold was active in sports from the time he was a young boy until 2004. He played high school baseball and basketball and was on Lebanon's first Babe Ruth All Star Team to play in the state tournament in 1955. He played industrial league basketball and continued playing church league softball until he was in his 50's. He officiated at high school football for thirteen years, including two state playoff games and officiated at Upward Basketball until 2004, when he was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome and was no longer physically able to participate.
One of Harold's greatest enjoyments was fishing with his kids. He believed it was never too early to enjoy God's great outdoors and started taking his boys fishing when they were three or four years old.

He also enjoyed the St. Louis Cardinals and the Missouri State Lady Bears. Harold and Mary have missed very few Lady Bear games over the past fourteen years. Their granddaughters, Tricia and Kylie have also become avid Lady Bear fans. Kylie has also missed very few games since she was three years old.

One of Harold's later-year-enjoyments was classic cars. He rarely missed a local car show and entered his 1965 Mustang in parades, car shows and cruise-ins. After retirement, he began restoration of a 1953 Chevy which is now being continued by his grandson-in-law, Nick Grunwaldt.

Harold's last project was writing a book entitled Evelyn's Story. It is the story of his mother's life and her family history. With the help of his daughter, Terri, and his wife, Mary, the book was published during the summer of 2006.

He accepted Christ at an early age during Vacation Bible School here at First Baptist Church. He has been an active member for the past thirty-four years, serving on committees and helping Mary in the pre-school department.
He was preceded in death by his father, Othel Jones, in 2003.

Harold is survived by his wife, Mary Jones; his daughter, Terri Brown, and her husband, Troy; his sons, Steve Jones, and his wife, Vicki, and Mike Jones, and his wife, LaNnette; his grandchildren, Tricia Grunwaldt, and her husband, Nick, Corporal Tyler Brown, and his wife, Jennifer, Colt Jones, and his wife, Alissa, Jessica Jones, Cale Jones, Kylie Jones, and Jaelyn Jones; his one great-grandchild, Lake Jones Robinette; his mother, Evelyn Jones; as well as numerous cousins.

Harold was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and son, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and his accomplishments and will treasure the memories he made for his family and friends.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 6, 2006, in the First Baptist Church, Lebanon. Entombment will be in Mount Rose Memorial Park Chapel Mausoleum. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 7 - 8:30 p.m. under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon, Missouri. Memorials to St. John's Lebanon Heritage Foundation Cancer Center and the First Baptist Church may be made through the funeral home.
