    Undertaker Arranges For His Own Funeral

    Edward E. Hill, Despondent over the death of wife, writes letters giving Directions for Burial and Takes Carbolic Acid....

    After writing three letters in which he gave explicit directions for his funeral, including the style and price of the coffin in which he wished to be buried, Edward E. Hill, an undertaker, ended his life yesterday at his home by swallowing carbolic acid. Grief over the death of his wife a year ago is believed to have been the motive which prompted the suicide.
    Hill rented apartents for himself and four children of Mrs. Couch at 64 Carpenter Street. One of his letters was addressed to her, notifying her that his life was insured for $1,100 and directing her to pay $200 to each of the children, the remainder to be used in defraying his funeral expenses.
    Hill also wote a letter to the firm of Moffett & Arnett, undertakers, at 1504 West madison Street, where he was formerly employed. In the letter Hill stated that he wanted F.J. Arnett to prepare his body for burial. "I want coffin No. 6, and it must not cost more than $50," the letter read.
    The third letter read as follows:
    "To whom it may concern: I E. H. Hill, took poison, as I was tired of life. Send my body to Moffett & Arnett's at 1504 West Madison Street. Letter No. 1 will give him ample information as to funeral arrngements."

    I have switched Fred's middle and last names. Initially, he was Fred H. Hill, but according to the Elgin, Illinois Record of Deaths, he is listed as Fred H. Hamilton. He is also buried in a section owned by Mrs. Minnie Hill, of the Bluff City Cemetery in Elgin, Illinois. Also, on familysearch.org for Fred Hill Hamilton, his parents are listed as Edwin H. Hamilton and Minnie Padilford.

    It would seem to me that his father Edwin H. Hill is really Edwin Hamilton.

    Fred Slosson, age 85, of Crown Point, IN, was called home to the Lord on Sunday, January 15, 2017 at his home. Fred is survived by his wife, Barbara of 63 years; children: Renee (Kevin) McNair, Craig (Lori) Slosson and Vannessa Slosson; grandchildren: Ashley (Antonio) Campos, Lauren Slosson, Ian McNair and Kaylie Slosson; great grandchild, Brennan Slosson; sister, Marjorie Albaugh. He was preceded in death by his parents: Willis and Lila Slosson and sister, Helen Chuch. Fred was a member of Bethel Church. He was a self-employed CPA for over 50 years in Crown Point and owner of Colonial Nursing Home from 1977-1988. Fred was a graduate of Lew Wallace High School, class of 1949. He received his undergraduate degree from Wheaton College, MBA from the University of Chicago and was an Associate Professor at Indiana University Northwest. Fred proudly served in the Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the Crown Point Chamber of Commerce, Crown Point Rotary, Board Member of St. Jude and Southlake Businessmen's Fellowship. He enjoyed jogging, reading and fellowship at Bethel Church. Fred was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and will be greatly missed by all whose lives he touched. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at Geisen Funeral, Cremation & Reception Centre, 606 E 113th Ave/South St, Crown Point, IN 46307 from 3:00 to 8:00 PM and on Thursday, January 19, 2017 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at Bethel Church, 10202 Broadway, Crown Point, IN. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Bethel Church of Crown Point with Pastor Gary Butler officiating. Interment will follow at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given in Fred's name to Every Child Ministries at Bethel Church in Crown Point.
