    Name:
    Our loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, Melvin, passed away peacefully in his home on August 15, 2016.

    Melvin was born in Holladay on April 21, 1926 to George Oliver Knapton and Mary Dorrit Young Knapton.

    At the age of eighteen, Mel enlisted in the Navy, serving his country from April 1944 to July 1946. Mel graduated from the University of Utah in accounting in 1950.

    On August 31, 1954, in Winnemucca, Nevada, Melvin married the love of his life, Vera Elizabeth Smith (Sadleir). Vera passed away on October 9, 1988. Mel was blessed to meet a second love, Brucina Stevens (Doss, Bacardi). They were married on August 12, 1989 in Salt Lake City.

    Melvin was the controller for the Metropolitan Water District of SLC from 1959-1987 and served on the Board of the Provo River Water Users Association from 1968-2002.

    Melvin especially loved spending time with his family fishing, hunting, and camping. With Brucina, he enjoyed camping and traveling all over the world from the North Pole to Antarctica and everywhere in between. His favorite travel location was Alaska.

    Melvin is survived by his wife, Brucina; children, Pat (Dave) Bott, Mary Applegate, Sherri (Charlie) Salazar, Garry (Joyce) Knapton, Karen (Ken) Fritz, Robert (Janna) Knapton, Johnathon (Christie) Knapton, and Becky (Jeff) Scholes; and sister, Mary (Tom) Decker; along with thirty-nine grandchildren, thirty-eight great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Vera; both parents, sister and brother-in-law, Dorrit Darleen and William Lynn Hamilton; grandson, Jared Bott; and great-grandson, Tyson Gough.

    Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 25, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the Murray West Stake Center, 5750 South Nena Way. Friends and family may visit on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, and prior to the services at the church on Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

    Name:
    Darleen Knapton Hamilton, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, passed away on August 4, 2008 peacefully at her home in her sleep from complications of cancer.

    Born Sept. 1, 1930 in Salt Lake City to George O. Knapton and Mary Dorrit Young. She was the second of three children. Married William Lynn Hamilton on July 28, 1953 in the Logan Temple. Mom attended Granite High School and graduated from the University of Utah in Elementary Ed. and taught two years at Emerson Elementary. After raising a family mom went to work at Hartvigsen Special Ed School. Mom decided to become a teacher in special ed. And went back to school and got her Special Education degree from BYU. Mom taught the sewing class at Hartvigsen for many years and retired with 20 years of teaching. After Mom retired she enjoyed traveling with her family and friends, spending time in her flower gardens and spoiling her grandkids. Mom was really proud of her Precious Moments collection. Mom was an active member of the LDS church serving in the Jr. Sunday School, the Cub Scouts, Primary and the Relief Society. Mom's last calling was compassionate service leader where she helped and comforted many, many ward members and friends. She will be greatly missed.

    Mom is survived by her husband; children, Greg and Lynda Hamilton, Kearns, Utah; Karleen and Ron Nesbitt, Salt Lake City; Ellen Hamilton and Elaine Hamilton, Salt Lake City; six grandchildren, Annie, Tim and Stephanie Hamilton, Nathan, Amy and Ryan Nesbitt; two siblings, Melvin and Brucina Knapton, Murray, Utah; and Mary and Tom Decker, Murray, Utah; and many nieces and nephews. Mom was preceded in death by her parents.

    Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2008 at 11 a.m. in the Kenwood II Ward Chapel, 1765 East Gregson Avenue (3080 South). Friends may visit with the Family on Friday evening on August 8, 2008 from 6-8 p.m. at Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East and at the Church on Saturday morning from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to services.
    Interment: Elysian Burial Gardens.
