    Name:
    Hugh Isom Gates, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully due to complications of age at 86 on December 16, 2013. Hugh was born in Hurricane, Utah on March 9, 1927 to Paul Hardy Gates and Elizabeth Lena Isom. He graduated from Hurricane High in 1945; then in 1946 he was drafted into the Army, serving in Japan as a Supply Sergeant and receiving an honorable discharge one year later in April 1947. After attending Dixie College for a year, Hugh served as a missionary from 1948 to 1950 for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the North Western States Mission. He then attended Brigham Young University for four years where he met his sweetheart, LaVan Heninger; they were married June 15, 1953 in the Salt Lake City Temple. Hugh's career started as a chemist, then moved into business with New York Life, Gates Real Estate, and Gates New Home Builders. In his later years, he pursued other various sales endeavors. Hugh was a cheerful, hardworking husband and father who centered his attention on his family and church service. He loved life, learning, and genuinely loved other people. He especially enjoyed his church callings which included teaching, missionary work, and serving in the temple.
    Hugh is survived by his wife, LaVan, and their six children: Debra Altice (Marshall), Michelle Bishop, Richard (Joanne), SteVan (Jolene), Darin (Heather), and Wynn (Arlene); 30 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren; his brother, Norman. Hugh's sister, Helen, preceded him in death.
    A public viewing will be held Thursday, December 19th from 6:00-7:00 p.m. at Russon Brothers Mortuary located at 1941 North Main, Farmington, Utah. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 21st at 10:30 a.m. at the Compton Bench L.D.S. Church located at 850 North 300 West, Farmington, Utah. A public viewing will also be held prior to the funeral services from 9:00-10:00 a.m. at the church.
