He lived at Yarmouth, his home being on his father's land; he was a deacon in the church, and from 1693 til his death he was a selectman in Yarmouth; he died at yarmouth, May 12th , 1701 (or 1702), "in his 36th year" and was buried in Old Cemetery at Yarmouth....

Deacon Josiah Thacher died intestate and letters of administration were granted unto his widow, Mary, December 1st, 1702. As appears by his inventory, his house was located on the land of his father in Yarmouth. In the settlement of his estate his son, Anthony Thacher, is mentioned as the oldest child. Barnabas Lothrop, Commissioner of Intestate Estates, settled the division of his property; giving to his wife one-third of personal and real estate for life; two (2) parts to eldest son Anthony, and one (1) part each to Elisha, Josiah, Rebecca and Mary; widow's one-third of real estate to go at her death to children of Deacon Josiah Thacher. There proved to be no real estate. Inventory taken September 7th, 1702, L113, 14s., 9d.

Josiah married Mary HEDGE on 25 Feb 1690/1 in Yarmouth, Massachusetts. Mary was born in Mar 1671 in Yarmouth, Massachusetts; died after 6 Aug 1727. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

He was a Sea Captain engaged in the coast trade, and a man of affairs inNorwalk; he died at Norwalk, Conn., August 22nd, 1780, "Tuesday at 8 hours and 44 minutes in the mornings." He was buried, presumable, at East Norwalk Conn., between the graves of his two wives; no stone marks his grave, but the space left between his wives' graves suggests his interment there.

Mary was born in 29 Aug or 25 Sep 1706 in Cambridge, Middlesex, Massachusetts; died in 2 or 6 Apr 1744 in Norwalk, Fairfield Co., Connecticut; was buried in East Norwalk Cemetery, Norwalk, Connecticut.
