John Brown and his wife Ruth and their children lived with his father, Francis Brown, on the farm on the southwest side of Turkey Hill, Newbury. On 7 October 1695, the house was attacked by a party of 5 Indians at a time when there were no men on the premises. They got away with 9 prisoners, all women and children. they were pursued and "all the captives were brought back save one boy that was killed. The Indians knocked the rest on the head save one infant." This is not very clear. The infant was perhaps Ruth(daughter).
