Elijah, of Middleborough, was a private in the American revolution serving in Capt. Amos Wade's (3d) company, which marched on the alarm of 19 April 1775, to Marshfield with service of three days. He also served in Capt. Joshua White's company, Col. Ebenezer White's regiment; he enlisted on 1 August 1780 and was discharged on 9 August 1780 with service of nine days on an alarm at Rhode Island; the company marched to Tiverton, Rhode Island (DAR Patriot Index; MSSR, 1:106).

In 1790, the household of Elijah Alden of Middleborough consisted of one male over age 16, three males under 16, and four females (M637-4, p 358).

On 7 June 1798 John Alden of Middleborough, yeoman, gave to his son Elijah Alden of Middleborough, yeoman, 40 1/2 acres (Plymouth Co LR, 85:123).

In 1800, there was one male under 10, two males 10-16, one male 16-26, one male over 45, two females under 10, one female 10-16, two females 16-26, and one female over 45 in Elijah Alden's household (M32-16, p.69A). In 1810 there was one male under 10, one male 10-16, two males 16-26, one male over 45, one female 10-16, three females 16-26, and one female over 45 (M252-21 p.100). Elijah is not indexed in the 1820 census.

Elijah Alden, yeoman of Middleborough, for love gave to his sons Jared and Elijah, Jr., of Middleborough, yeoman, 'My house and lot where I now live, reserving certain privileges until I finished my new house"; wife Molly released, but signed Mary, 18 May 1814 (Plymouth Co LR, 126:208).

At the Court of Common Pleas held in Plymouth in August 1817, Elijah Alden of Middleborough, yeoman, executor of the estate of Solomon Alden of Bridgewater, yeoman, for two sums of $500 and interest due Molly under Solomon's will dated 27 November 1813. The sums were supposed to have been paid one year after both Solomon and his wife were dead, with the second sum due only on condition that Elijah pay a note for L222.8s. with interest. Solomon and his wife had been dead more than one year and Elijah had paid the note. The court ruled for the defendant; the plaintiffs appealed, but no further record appears (Plymouth Co Ct recs CD, vol.13(26:373-378).

No probate record was found for Elijah in plymouth County. on 8 October 1835, jared, Elijah, and Daniel Alden, all of Middleborough, sold to a partnership, land in Halifax that was "our late father Elijah Alden's deceased" (Plymouth Co LR 178:77).

Elijah married Mary/Molly ALDEN on 25 Mar 1779 in Middleborough, Massachuetts. Mary/Molly (daughter of Solomon ALDEN and Sarah HALL) was born on 16 May 1756 in Bridgewater, Massachusetts; died on 22 Sep 1839 in Middleborough, Plymouth County, Massachusetts. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

On 9 March 1795 John Alden of Middleborough, yeoman, gave to his two sons Seth and Elihu (under age 21) both of Middleborough, seventy acres of upland and meadow being part of the farm "whereon I now dwell given to me by my father by will excepting small piece of land I sold my brother David since deceased", 3 acres of meadow bought of David; another 21 acres; 3 acres bought of his brother Joseph; 25 acres given him by his father in his will; another 31 acres; and half of the tenth lot in the Great Cedar Swamp. On 18 June 1796 Elihu Alden of Reedfield, Maine, trader, sold his half of the above lands to Seth Alden (Plymouth Co LR, 87:212-13).

He was of readfield on 2 January 1798 when he inventoried an estate in Lincoln County (Lincoln Co PR, 316-17). Indexes to Kennebec County court records list Elihu Alden of Readfield in July 1799, and of Dixmont in September 1801 and June 1802.

Elihu is not found in the census indexes for 1800, 1820, or 1830. In 1810 the household of Elihu Alden of Dixmont includes one male under age 10, one male 16-26, one male 26-45, two females under 10, one female 10-16, one female 26-45 (M252-11, P. 575).

Lyda Alden, widow, relinquished her right to serve as administratrix of the estate of her late husband Elihu Alden, 25 June 1833. Administration was granted to Elihu Alden, yeoman, in the estate of Elihu Alden, yeoman late of Dixmont, 30 July 1833 (Penobscot Co PR, 5:355).

In 1840, Lydia was undoubtedly the female age 60-70 in the household of her son Elihu Alden of Dixmont (M704-149, p.234 indexed as Elishu). In 1850, Lydia Alden, age 74 is listed with Elihus family (M432-265, p. 394), and also in 1860, when she was age 83 (M653-445, p433).

Elihu married Lydia MITCHELL on 1 Jul 1796 in Readfield, Maine. Lydia was born in 22 or 25 Apr 1777 in Readfield, Maine; died on 10 Sep 1864 in Dixmont, Maine. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
