VERNA PADELFORD
Father Rand Reasoner officiated at graveside memorial services Wednesday, Sept. 26 for Verna Padelford, 71, former distinguished Fillmore teacher, who passed away Saturday, Sept. 22 at the Santa Paula Memorial Hospital after a long and courageous battle against cancer.
Mrs. Padelford was born in this community, attended local schools and graduated from Fillmore High School. A woman of superior mind and great integrity, she was both a homemaker and successful career woman as an adult. She graduated from Pomona College, one of California's finest academic institutions, and was for 19 years a most Highly respected teacher at the Sespe School. There are many people still living in this town who were the beneficiaries of Mrs. Padelford's outstanding talents as an educator
During her many years in Fillmore, Verna Padelford was extremely active in civic affairs. The first Honor Queen of Fillmore's Job's Daughters Bethel #90, she was active in the Soroptomist Club of Fillmore, and was a past member of the City Planning Commission. She was also a longtime member and faithful supporter of the Trinity Episcopal Church.
Mrs. Padelford is survived by her husband, F. Sumner Padelford of Fillmore, two accomplished daughters Nancy Noel of Fillmore and Peggy Colburn of Yorba Linda, and four grandchildren.
Her family most respectfully suggests that friends might wish to make contributions in Mrs. Padelford's name to either the Fillmore Trinity Episcopal Church, or the American Cancer Society.
