Name |
Elisha WOLCOTT [1] |
- He was a hatmaker at the outbreak of the revolutionary War. Elisha offered his service to the cause of American Independence and became a soldier in Captain Hammer's Company, which was involved in the conflict in New York. After serving gallantly for some time, General Washington sent him home to make hats for the Continental soldiers. These hats were made in a shed in the rear of his house, which were built by his father in 1750. The house was still standing in 1976 at 381 Wolcott road, Wethersfield. [1]
