- He was a master mariner, shipbuilder, and merchant. He built the ship Triton at Russell's mills, Dartmouth, and after removing to new Bedford entered into business with his brother-in-law, Captain Cornelius Grinnell. Besides their shipping they dealt in corn, flour, provisions, and particularly iron of various kinds. They built several ships, notably the Euphrates. [1]
